 Back To School

Hello Pet lovers,

September is a very busy time in my house. I have 3 children who are now in 3 different schools. The change from fun in the sun with no real schedule to cooler weather and humans all having places to be. Our pets, of course notice the change.  Dogs seem to have the quickest response, chewing. Usually chewing something they are NOT supposed to chew. So for September we are going to feature products that help curb those habits.

One great idea, time permitting, is add a walk to your dogs routine. Use a Baydog harness for easy walking. This great product accommodates multiple walking styles. It works as a no pull harness, has a top handle - to stop jumping or to secure in the car, 3 attachment points, and is padded.  The no pull harness works by attaching a leash to the top metal loop and the chest metal loop. This can be done with a double walking 6ft leash or using one six foot leash with a carabiner attached to the handle. This gives you a 3 foot leash but a lot of control. There will be video attached, it makes more sense once you see it. If you have a dog that does not pull using either metal loops on top of the harness will allow for a way to give your dog a Scent Walk. During a scent walk your dog is able to smell at its leisure. No rules. This is makes your pups brain work more. They are trying to figure out all those smells. Plus getting outside is good for everyone.

Enrichments toys - there are toys for every type of dog.  For a more aggressive chewer there are Petsafe busy buddy's. The ones I prefer are hard nylon with a rubber bone and have the ability to add a treat ring. This keeps your pup interested and you can refill. Starmark is another company who has 3 sizes of treat pucks that can be refilled in an assortment of toy. We carry, what I believe are the best 3, Groovy Ball, Wheeler and the Everlasting Treat Ball. Last product, which is very adaptable is The JW Hol-ee Roller. It too comes in many sizes. I have tied long strips of fleece to it and stuffed into ball which gives the dog a chance to pull them out. Adding a treat that can fall out makes it even more fun. Gypsy, our 1 year old golden, loves the toy with a squeaker toy we put inside.

In conclusion having a plan that your family can easily follow is the first step. Adding exercise some  brain stimulus and of course love is a wonderful combo for your pet. Our furry family members really just want to please us so give them the tools to succeed. Check out my Utube video attached below.

 Til next time. Jen
